Ingredients

Scale

Cupcakes

  • 1 chocolate cake mix + ingredients from back of box
  • 1 can chocolate frosting
  • Sprinkles

Reese’s Owl Toppers

  • 24 Reese’s peanut butter cups
  • 48 mini Oreo cookies
  • 48 edible candy eyeballs
  • 24 orange chocolate covered sunflower seeds or mini candy corn
  • 1/4 cup chocolate melting wafers
  • 24 short lollipop sticks

Instructions

  1. Bake Cupcakes: Prepare the chocolate cake mix according to the package directions, bake the cupcakes, and allow them to cool completely before decorating.
  2. Frost and Add Sprinkles: Once cooled, frost the cupcakes with chocolate frosting and add sprinkles on top.
  3. Melt Chocolate Wafers: Place the chocolate melting wafers in a microwave-safe bowl and heat for 20-30 seconds. Stir until the chocolate is smooth and creamy.
  4. Create Slit in Reese’s Cups: Using a sharp knife, carefully cut a small slit in the side of each Reese’s peanut butter cup for inserting the lollipop stick.
  5. Insert Lollipop Sticks: Dip the end of each lollipop stick into the melted chocolate to help secure, then gently insert the stick into the slit of the Reese’s cup, ensuring it goes straight in to avoid breakage.
  6. Prepare Oreo Eyes: Twist apart the mini Oreo cookies and select the halves with frosting. Using a toothpick, dab melted chocolate on the back of each candy eyeball and attach them to the Oreo halves.
  7. Attach Oreo Eyes to Reese’s Cups: Secure the Oreo halves with the eyes on top of each Reese’s cup using a dab of melted chocolate as glue.
  8. Add Beak Decoration: Dab a small amount of melted chocolate on the back of each orange chocolate-covered sunflower seed or mini candy corn, then place it directly below the Oreo eyes on each Reese’s owl.
  9. Allow to Set: Let the assembled owl toppers set until the chocolate hardens before placing them atop the frosted cupcakes.
  10. Serve and Enjoy: Place one owl topper on each cupcake and serve your festive treats at your gathering.

Notes

  • These Reese’s Owls use mostly store-bought ingredients, making them easy and quick to assemble without complicated baking required for the toppers.
  • Be gentle when inserting the lollipop sticks into the Reese’s cups to avoid breaking them.
  • Use a toothpick to handle small decorations precisely and avoid messy fingers.
  • These owl cupcakes make perfect festive treats for fall or Halloween parties.
  • Try swapping candy eyes with similar edible decorations if unavailable.
