Description
Memaw’s Sausage Bundles are bite-sized savory treats combining seasoned pork sausage and creamy chive and onion cream cheese, wrapped in buttery crescent roll dough and baked to golden perfection. These bundles are perfect for appetizers, snacks, or party platters and can be served with Dijon mustard for an extra tangy kick.
Ingredients
Scale
Sausage Mixture
- 8 oz. regular bulk pork sausage
- 1/2 cup chive and onion cream cheese spread
Dough
- 1 (8-oz.) can crescent rolls
Optional
- Dijon mustard, for dipping
Instructions
- Cook the Sausage: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). In a medium nonstick skillet over medium-high heat, add the bulk pork sausage. Using a wooden spoon, crumble and cook the sausage until it is fully cooked and no longer pink, about 5 minutes. Transfer the cooked sausage to a medium bowl and allow it to cool slightly for about 5 minutes.
- Mix with Cream Cheese: Add the chive and onion cream cheese spread to the cooked sausage in the bowl. Stir well until the mixture is evenly combined and creamy.
- Prepare the Dough: Unroll the crescent roll dough and press it firmly into a 12-inch by 9-inch rectangle, sealing the perforations to ensure the dough holds together. Cut the rectangle into 24 equal 2-inch by 2-inch squares.
- Form the Bundles: Spoon about one heaping teaspoon of the sausage and cream cheese mixture onto the center of each square. Bring the four corners of the dough square up and slightly overlap them at the center. Twist and pinch the corners to seal the filling inside, forming individual bundles. Place each bundle on an ungreased baking sheet, spaced evenly.
- Bake the Bundles: Bake the sausage bundles in the preheated oven for 10 to 12 minutes, or until they are golden brown on all sides. Once done, remove from the oven and let them cool just enough to handle.
- Serve: Serve the bundles warm, accompanied by Dijon mustard for dipping if desired. These are perfect for parties, snacks, or anytime you crave a flavorful bite.
Notes
- You can substitute regular cream cheese with flavored cream cheese spreads to customize the flavor.
- Serve immediately for best texture; reheating can be done in a warm oven but may soften the dough slightly.
- If preferred, you can use pre-cooked sausage or change the meat to turkey or chicken sausage for a leaner option.
- These bundles freeze well before baking; bake straight from frozen, adding a few extra minutes to the baking time.
