Halloumi Bites:
- 16 oz. halloumi cheese cut into approximately 1″ cubes
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup cornmeal, preferably stone-ground, plus more if needed
- 1/4 cup olive oil, plus more if needed
Honey Chili Sauce:
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1/2 teaspoon chili garlic sauce (such as Huy Fong or sriracha)
Optional Garnish:
- Fresh basil leaves
Instructions
- Prepare Halloumi Bites: In a shallow bowl, beat the egg well. In another shallow bowl, add the cornmeal. Dip each halloumi cube into the egg, then coat in cornmeal. Place on a plate.
- Make Honey Chili Sauce: Mix honey with chili garlic sauce and set aside.
- Fry Halloumi: Heat olive oil in a skillet. Cook halloumi bites until golden brown and crispy on each side.
- Serve: Drizzle honey sauce over halloumi bites, garnish with basil, and serve.
Notes
- This recipe serves 8 as an appetizer but can be a main course for four with a side of Greek salad.
- Chili Garlic Sauce can be substituted with sriracha or crushed red pepper in honey.
- Cornmeal provides a unique crunch, but panko breadcrumbs can be used.
- Substitute halloumi with Paneer or Queso Para Frier if needed.
