These Fried Halloumi Bites with Honey Chili Sauce are a delicious and addictive appetizer or main course option. Crispy on the outside, soft and gooey on the inside, these halloumi bites are perfect for entertaining or a flavorful meal.

Ingredients

Units Scale

Halloumi Bites:

  • 16 oz. halloumi cheese cut into approximately 1″ cubes
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup cornmeal, preferably stone-ground, plus more if needed
  • 1/4 cup olive oil, plus more if needed

Honey Chili Sauce:

  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili garlic sauce (such as Huy Fong or sriracha)

Optional Garnish:

  • Fresh basil leaves

Instructions

  1. Prepare Halloumi Bites: In a shallow bowl, beat the egg well. In another shallow bowl, add the cornmeal. Dip each halloumi cube into the egg, then coat in cornmeal. Place on a plate.
  2. Make Honey Chili Sauce: Mix honey with chili garlic sauce and set aside.
  3. Fry Halloumi: Heat olive oil in a skillet. Cook halloumi bites until golden brown and crispy on each side.
  4. Serve: Drizzle honey sauce over halloumi bites, garnish with basil, and serve.

Notes

  • This recipe serves 8 as an appetizer but can be a main course for four with a side of Greek salad.
  • Chili Garlic Sauce can be substituted with sriracha or crushed red pepper in honey.
  • Cornmeal provides a unique crunch, but panko breadcrumbs can be used.
  • Substitute halloumi with Paneer or Queso Para Frier if needed.
