Peach Filling
- 2 heaping cups of sliced fresh peaches (about 2-3 fresh peaches)
Batter
- 1/3 cup salted butter
- 1/2 cup granulated white sugar
- 3/4 cup all-purpose flour, spooned and leveled
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- Pinch of salt
- 3/4 cup milk of choice
Instructions
- Prepare Peaches: Preheat your oven to 350°F. Wash, peel, and slice 2 to 3 fresh peaches, discarding the pits. Measure out 2 heaping cups of sliced peaches and set aside.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a mixing bowl, combine the sugar, flour, baking powder, and a pinch of salt. Stir to evenly distribute all dry ingredients.
- Add Milk and Mix Batter: Pour in 3/4 cup of your choice of milk and whisk the mixture until smooth. The batter will have a thin consistency, which is expected for this cobbler.
- Melt Butter in Baking Dish: Place 1/3 cup salted butter into an 11×7″ casserole dish or a 9″ round pie dish. Put the dish in the oven for a few minutes until the butter melts completely. Carefully remove the dish from the oven once melted.
- Assemble Cobbler: Pour the smooth batter over the melted butter in the baking dish. Do not stir or mix them together. Next, evenly distribute the sliced fresh peaches on top of the batter. Again, do not stir.
- Bake: Return the baking dish to the preheated oven and bake for 45 to 60 minutes. Bake until the edges of the cobbler become crisp and dark golden brown, and the top of the cobbler is a light golden brown.
- Cool and Serve: Remove the cobbler from the oven and allow it to cool for about 10 minutes before serving. For an extra special touch, serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
- Storage: Store any leftovers at room temperature for up to 2 days or refrigerate for up to 5 days for best freshness.
Notes
- See the blog post for additional baking tips and ways to customize this recipe.
- Recommended baking dish sizes include 11×7″ casserole dish or 9″ round pie dish for best results.
- If using unsalted butter instead of salted, add ¼ teaspoon salt to the dry ingredients.
- If using canned peaches, ensure they are very well drained. Using 2 15oz cans is typical, but only enough peaches are used to leave about 1/2 cup leftover to enjoy separately.
