Description

Bloomin’ Apples is a delightful dessert featuring apples sliced to resemble a blooming flower, filled with gooey caramel squares, brushed with a buttery cinnamon sugar mixture, baked or air-fried until tender, and served warm with vanilla ice cream and a drizzle of caramel sauce. This easy-to-make treat combines the comforting flavors of cinnamon, caramel, and fresh baked apples for a perfect cozy dessert.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • Cooking spray, for greasing
  • 4 Tbsp. melted butter
  • 1 Tbsp. packed brown sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 4 large apples
  • 8 chewy caramel squares
  • Breyers Natural Vanilla ice cream, for serving
  • Caramel sauce, for drizzling

Instructions

  1. Prepare Baking Dish and Butter Mixture: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) if using the oven method and grease a medium baking dish with cooking spray. In a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter, brown sugar, granulated sugar, and ground cinnamon until well combined.
  2. Core and Slice Apples: Slice the top off each apple, then use an apple corer to remove the core. If needed, use a small spoon to remove any remaining core pieces. Using a paring knife, make two circular cuts around the apple near the top to create the ‘blooming’ effect. Place the apple cut side down on a cutting board and carefully slice crosswise between the rings, being careful not to cut all the way through the core so the apple holds its shape.
  3. Fill Apples and Apply Butter Mixture: Place the prepared apples upright in the baking dish (oven method) or directly into the air fryer basket. Fill the center of each apple with two chewy caramel squares. Then brush the butter and sugar mixture generously over the top and edges of each apple.
  4. Cook the Apples: For the oven method, bake the apples at 375°F (190°C) for about 30 minutes until tender and caramel melted. For the air fryer method, bake at 350°F (175°C) for approximately 20 minutes until apples are soft and caramel squares are melted.
  5. Serve: Serve the bloomin’ apples warm, topped with a scoop of Breyers Natural Vanilla ice cream and drizzled with additional caramel sauce for extra indulgence.

Notes

  • Choose firm baking apples like Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Fuji for best results.
  • Be careful when slicing the apples to avoid cutting all the way through the core; the bloom effect depends on keeping the apple intact.
  • Cooking times may vary slightly depending on the size and variety of apples used.
  • If you don’t have a corer, carefully use a small spoon or paring knife to remove the core.
  • For extra flavor, sprinkle a pinch of nutmeg or cloves in the butter mixture.
  • Air fryer temperatures and times can vary by model; check apples early to prevent overcooking.
  • This dessert is best served immediately while warm, but leftovers can be reheated gently in the oven or microwave.
